Visual Capitalist
Founded by Jeff Desjardins
A Vancouver publisher of daily infographics on markets, energy, technology and demographics, usually redrawn from third-party data.
What you will find
- Daily designed charts and rankings, sized for social feeds
- Maps and ranked lists that compare countries and companies
- A source line on each graphic naming the original data
What we can learn from it
- 01Rankings read fast: one sorted list, one clear title
- 02Follow the source line back: the chart is only as good as the data it redraws
- 03Heavy decoration can make small differences look large, or large ones small
Chart types you will meet there
Ordered bar chart
Bars sorted by value, so position in the list is the message: who leads, who trails.
Treemap
Nested rectangles sized by value, showing a hierarchy and each part’s share of the whole.
Bubble chart
A scatter plot where circle area encodes a third measure.
Cartogram
Resizes places by a value instead of land area, loosening geography so the data sets the size.
